NEWSPAPERS

Yeah, yeah, I'm dragging in posting on this little blog.  I have other things to do like laundry.  I guess I've been a bit bored.  I have several ideas on saving money and I forgot to write them down so I didn't post them.

But here is one:

IF your local Dollar Tree sells the newspaper the most it will cost you is....tada......$1.00!!!
Unless, of course, it is an everyday edition, that will cost you about fifty cents.  Depending on how much your local newspaper charges.

I was happy to find out this bit of information because the local Huntsville Times has scaled back to publishing only three or four days per week AND increased the cost of one Sunday paper to $2.00.

If you buy, say, two papers a week, that is $8.00 - $16.00 per month for papers alone!!  If you buy more, then it is more money or if the paper charges more, it is more money, too.  It can get to the point that buying papers for coupons isn't really saving any money.

Is this registering?  I know what I'm saying but wondering if it is coming out right on this post.  Grin.

So, in summary, go to Dollar Tree, buy the Sunday paper, pay $1.00.  Go to another store or buy one from the box, it will cost you double, or $2.00 per paper.

There, that should do it.

LOVE THIS SONG

Yes, I know he needs a shirt.

Yes, I know it is an old song.

However, you can understand every word the man sings!!!  No mean lyrics, no profanity, no guns, no violence.

It's okay, I like it!

This song makes me happy, makes me want to dance and forget the past!

So, I do.

Grin!

INSOMNIA

INSOMNIA is in the house!  I am a night owl, have been for years.  I love staying up late, surfing the web, doing a craft, piddling around then dragging myself to bed.  I also like sleeping late.  There is a difference between staying up for fun and staying up because you cannot fall asleep.

One is fun and fulfilling.  The other is boring and wears a body out.

I've always thought I would like to work a late shift at some job and then sleep all day.  Sounds wacko, I know, but I seem to function so much better at night than I do in early mornings.  This girl is not a morning person, never ever even in my vocabulary.  One big ugh!

Life takes many different turns.  Those turns go up hill and downhill with surprises or disappointments all along the way.  Sleep is necessary for the journey but when it's one of those nights that sleep does not come,  the turns of life seem to stay front focus and the old brain just keeps churning away about thoughts of the day, plans for the next or disappointments that dog us.

So, on a night that insomnia is present, I wonder...

Wouldn't it be cool if humans had an on-off switch?

December 7, Pearl Harbor Day and my mother-in-law's birthday although she passed away several years ago RIP, Juanita Mae, still trying to figure out how to rid the yard of those pesky moles, why is this house crumbling,  how many days till Christmas is it anyway?

See the things that rattle the brain cells in the middle of the night?  Yeah an on-off switch would be a nice invention.

CURLING THE TOES

Yes, yes, I know, I am very behind on doing things on this little blog.  Normally, I post a money saving hint on Tuesday.  When you're retired, the days can run together anyway so guess it really doesn't matter when I post a money saving hint or even if I do post a money saving hint.  The world will not stop spinning one way or the other, right?  ha

Here is the hint:

Recently I purchased the coffee on the left as a BOGO from the local Publix store.  Yes, it is French Vanilla.

The coffee on the right was the penny item for the week.  Since I do not really like a strong flavored French Vanilla coffee for two reasons:

1 - the dang stuff costs more!
2 - the dang stuff can make your toes curl it's so strong!

So, I determined to mix the two coffees together, store in a zipper lock type bag for two reasons:

1 - did not have another canister big enough to hold two bags of coffee at the same time!
2 - combining the two coffees together would double the amount of coffee and make it last longer, with a much milder taste!

So, the coffee on the left was less than $4.  The coffee on the right 1 cent.  Double the coffee for about $4.01!!!  Plus it tastes so much better than the toe curling stuff!

WARNING

Copied from another blog but so worth memorizing!!!!!!

‎”THROUGH A RAPIST’S EYES” (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. it may save a life.) Reblog this!

It seems that alot of attackers use some tactic to get away with violence. Not many people know how to take care of themselves when faced with such a
situation. Everyone should read this especially each n every girl in this world. THOUGHT THIS WAS GOOD INFO TO PASS ALONG…

FYI - Through a rapist’s eyes! A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle.
They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.

3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.

5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.

6] Number three is public restrooms.

7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.

8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.

———————————————————————————————————————————-

POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:

1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk:
can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would
not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and
armpit or in the upper inner thigh - HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.

5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our
instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there.

6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using
much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel
little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL ….

I know you are smart enough to know these pointers but there will be some, where you will go “hmm I must remember that” After reading forward it to someone you care about, never hurts to be careful in this crazy world we live in.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you…. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or
purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be
hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .
b. If you! u are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.

DUH FLOOR, DUH FLOOR!

Do you remember the TV show called Fantasy Island?  Is that it?  I don't because we didn't watch it.  But I do remember the commercials about the tiny little assistant that would look in the sky, point, grin and say,

Duh Plane!  Duh Plane!

Well, I fell about 10 days ago.  Yeah, again.  I guess twice in 5 years is not so bad for an old gal like me.

Any who....

I have slept on the floor for the last several nights and am feeling so much better.  I was thinking about the floor and here is what I was thinking.

1 - the floor is the bottom of any room
2 - when you are on the floor, you can only go up from there
3 - most floors in the USA are covered with something....carpet, wood, tile, rugs, even pennies!  See?!

Pretty cool, I think, and a cheap way to cover a floor compared to other possibilities.  I wondered about doing this but isn't there a law about using US money for stuff like this?  Or is that damaging it by writing on it or copying it.  I don't know.  On to the rest of my list.

4 - the floor is cold in the winter and not so cold in the summer
5 - sleeping on the floor for a couple of nights before going to your friendly, neighborhood Chiropractor, is a way to loosen up those tight muscles because it helps keep the spine in a secure position
6 - be thankful if you have a floor, some don't even have a room to own much less a floor to go with it.  Think about it

Sleeping on the floor is great for a sore back but be sure and have a pillow of some kind under your legs to keep from straining the back further!  Pillow for the head, too.  If you sleep on the floor for one night and you feel better the next day, do it again.  If you feel worse, don't do it again, sleep in your bed.

Brilliant, I know!

BOOMER FUNNY LIFE

There are lots of good things about being a baby boomer!  Living and breathing are just two.

I fell the other day, really bruising my right knee, hurting the left hand.  Go figure how that happens other than the bunny slippers getting wrapped around the extra fabric draped around the chaise chair!   See, funny!

Getting a big knot in the left shoulder and not know where or how it happened but no big deal ever how it did cuz it's just one more ouchie!

Then, waking up, going to the bathroom, blowing the runny nose on some toilet paper, having that toilet paper stick to the Breathe Right strip and laughing about it in the middle of the night!

Giggling at yourself is more fun when you're older because it happens more often!

Really!

FPU

Our Church is about to finish another Financial Peace University class from the now famous Dave Ramsey.
It is the new edition and is shorter than the last class we attended.

There are other speakers in this edition besides DR.  It gives you a different perspective because of their life experiences rather than only one that of DR.

I missed most of the classes this time due to sickness.  I went tonight and the last class is next week.  I did enjoy what I was able to see and learn.  Last class, I typed notes the entire time.  This time, I sat and listened, taking only a couple of notes.  It was great, again, even the second time around!

Wish we knew this stuff when we were younger, much younger.  Still, we have learned so much from FPU and Dave Ramsey.

Yes, I am a fan and I do recommend it!  Now if I can just learn to keep my mouth closed and not talk so much!  Is that going to happen?  It will if I literally bite my tongue the entire discussion time.  Yeah, done that before, too.  Grin!

HALLOWEENEE

Today is Halloween.  When I was growing up, it was a fun holiday.  Now it is edging closer and closer to an evil holiday.  Each year there is less childlike innocence and more towards blood, guts, meanness.

It's sad because it is a sign we are becoming meaner as a society, my opinion.  It started years ago when that creep in Houston poisoned his own children and blamed it on trick treat treats.  Trust no one now.

Here, the churches do Trunk and Treat, which is a good thing and is much safer for all the children.

Still it is fun to see the pumpkins, candy and cute little kids all dressed up, having fun.  So, enjoy this day.  It's almost over for another year.

Happy Halloween if you care.....if you don't.....no big deal.

FIRE RED PATENT LEATHER HEELS

Well, I have found a website that I really like, so far!  It is 6pm.com.  Yes, a shoe site.  I ordered these from it on Saturday and they arrived today!!!

Shoes for 39.00, no shipping, no tax and list for $129.99!  They are beautiful, came shipped in the designer box, each shoe in it's own soft bag, inside the box, inside a sturdy cardboard box, delivered by UPS to my front door this morning!

What a deal!!

Normally I do not spend even $39 on shoes for me but what a savings this is!  The shoes are well constructed and very girlie.

I have wanted a pair of red heels for years since the last pair I purchased in the color red was in the year 1975, no joke!

Love, love, love!

SAVE MONEY COUPONING

Today's hint for saving money is:

Watch, record and take notes while the Extreme Couponing TV show is on the air!

BUT

Don't believe everything they are telling you about couponing because:

1 - no one really shops that way......

2 - it is a television show......

3 - your store may not give the discounts that their store does.....

4 - do not buy so many products that may expire before you need to use that product......

STILL

it is a good way to learn tips and tricks on how to save real money, from real people on real products.

So, check it out but be sure and keep a level head about it.

Once you start couponing and saving money, it is addictive, especially if you are living on Social Security and very little else.

CVS DEALS

CVS is a great place to find some great deals.  The things in this picture cost $5.40, including tax, with coupons, Extra Care Bucks and sales priced.  Plus with the purchase of the Dove, received $5.00 Extra Care Bucks back.

Some websites would say the product was free but I don't list it that way because the ECBs are for the next purchase.  Still, $5 is $5 to spend next time!

SUICIDE

As one ages, things start to go, physically, mentally and emotionally.  For instance, the last post I made may have been posted earlier and I flat out forgot.  Oh well, I'm working towards 65, have outlived both of my parents and am not getting any younger, give me some space.  Grin.

I was surfing the web while The Hubbie was on his treadmill.  Yes, I was walking on the boring, big snooze machine, but when my foot became infected after an in office procedure, I have taken a break from it.

So, enough for excuses.

Back to the point about surfing the web.  I actually Googled my full name.  Boy, does the web have it wrong on me but that's fine.

I kept clicking the largest numbered page below the Google at the bottom of the page when I found this webpage:

You may have to copy and paste because it may not be live once I post.

I watched it for a bit, stopping the spinning as I waited.  It is so very shocking how many UNDER the age of 30 are listed on the spinning, 24/7 wall.

Sure, I get down, depressed, vertically flattened but this site is so much more than a bad day.  It is about real humans who chose death over living, who quit breathing by their choice, who have left a hole in the heart of their families and friends.

It brought me to this question:

Is suicide selfish?

I hope no one is considering this way out of a bad situation.  There is always hope.  There is always help.  Don't give up the only life you have, or ever will have, because it is overwhelming.
Once you do it, there is no coming back, ever.
There are people that love you and you can learn to love yourself.

IF the situation is bad, work on getting out of it, start today and live for one more year.  Look at life at the end of that year but don't take the path of suicide.  It really isn't the only answer.

Why am I saying all this?  I don't know.

BLOG POST NEVER POSTED

I'm up and should be in bed sawing logs.  Not sure why I am not sleeping tonight, just happens ever so often now instead of night after night of no sleep.

Any wwhhhoooo, I was cleaning out the notepad on my laptop and found this blog post that was never posted, no time, no date, just words.  Here it is:

Saving money is a main focus for me and for this blog.  I am constantly looking for ways to economize.  Here is a typical day in the life of a Sr Citizen living on a budget.

I do have specific days that I try to accomplish specific tasks.  Grocery shopping and errands in the nearby bigger town usually take most of one day.  This is how I saved some money on one of those days.

Had breakfast at Hardee's, one plain biscuit, one medium Diet Coke, light ice......
Didn't buy a biscuit with any 'toppings', only bought one, didn't buy the large size drink; medium is only $1.  I eat for $2.06.

Bought new undies from the local Ross store.....not at a department store is the point...
Also splurged and bought a 'lifetime mildew repellent shower curtain" only 5.99
Normallly I just cut the old one down and put up a new one.  If this works, it will be a long time before I buy another one instead of one about every 3 months.

Lost my oversized, fit over the eyeglasses, sunglasses.....
Checked the three places I had been the day before, finding them on the counter of the thrift store, claimed them, left with them on my nose.  Saved $10 for a new pair.

Shopped Publix
Only bought the BOGO free items this trip and Hebrew National Hotdogs that were on sale, too.  Also get the old lady discount!

Lunch I wasn't that hungry but it was getting late and needed to refuel the body
Drove thru local Zaxby's, used my happy birthday card for a free mini sandwich, splurged and bought the LARGE Diet Coke.  Lunch: $1.92.

Stopped at Staples.....
Purchased a new coupon like file for our Dave Ramsey budget.  (We used the enveloped for several months, writing in pencil the erasing but the envelopes started falling apart, didn't want to spend $10 on refill)  Regular price was $4.95 plus tax.  Today, back to school sale:  $2.09.

Skyped the Daughter......
No minutes used on the cell phone.

The rest of the day was spent at home, sweeping, moping, cleaning the bathrooms, slowly, pacing myself of course......

No shopping, no money spent!  Money in is money in not money out.

Yeah, I even cooked supper.....
Stir-fry beef with brocolli and water chestnuts on white rice, all from the pantry.

Sometimes you have to look at saving money as NOT spending money, which means it is in your pocket not in the store's cash register.   Better still, NOT spending money you don't have!

Think about it then do it.

CROCKPOT LASAGNA

A great way to save time and energy is to use the good old Crockpot.  It is a great way to have an easy dinner ready when you get or home.

This is a new recipe I'm going to try:

Crock-Pot Lasagna
1 lb. ground beef
29 oz can tomato sauce
8 oz pkg. lasagna noodles, uncooked
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 1/2 cups cottage cheese
1. Spray the inside of the crock-pot with cooking spray
2. Brown the ground beef
3. Stir the tomato sauce in with the ground beef
4. Spread 1/4 of the meat sauce on the bottom of the crock-pot
5. Arrange 1/3 of the uncooked noodles over the sauce; break to fit better into pot
6. Combine the cheeses in a bowl. Spoon 1/3 of the cheeses over the noodles.
7. Repeat these layers twice
8. Top with remaining sauce
9. Cover and cook on low for 4hrs (you can start the crock-pot on high in the morning before work;  put it on low till ready to eat at supper time)
10. Let the lasagna stand in the crock-pot with the lid off for at least 10 minutes
Variations
1. Add chopped onion and garlic to the ground beef
2. Use Italian sausage in place of ground beef or with ground beef
3. Add 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese to the cheese mixture. Replace cottage cheese with Ricotta.
4. Add 1/2 cup additional shredded mozzarella cheese to the top of lasagna 5 minutes before serving

Hope I can freeze the leftovers or maybe I will share with some friends in our little town.....why should we all 'cook'?

64

Yesterday was my Happy 64th Birthday!  Happy Birthday to me!

We had a great time visiting our youngest son and his future fiance, meaning, no ring yet but eventually.  They were so good to us!  We did some tourist things, ate at wonderful restaurants, watched movies and just enjoyed the time together.  We also played with their little Westie, Dexter.

We love spending time with out adult children!

So, now I am working on my 65th year!!!

FREE SUPPER

Well, look here, it's Tuesday again.  Here is the tip to save you some cash:

Take advantage of frequent buyer cards.  Each time you make a purchase, have it stamped or punched!

Last night we had a FREE supper by using my full frequent buyer card and an email for free cookie dough from Papa Murphy's.  Besides eating the best pizza on the market, we also had free dessert.

Free is free is free and sometimes can be yummy!

MONDAY DOING

Today is Monday again.  Time to start another week.  Doing better.  Figured out I was de-hydrated and that was what was causing the light-headed-ness.  I've started drinking water, which I do not like, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do  Drinking only Diet Coke or sweet tea was not doing the job in this heat.  Water it is.

Dixie has had rain!  Lots and lots of rain!  Refreshing and wonderful!

This week is jam packed with stuff to do.  Whoever said that retirement would be boring or a drag, was wrong.  It seems we are busier than before.  When you figure that one out, let me know.

I'm still filling a bag a day of 'stuff' to donate, share or trash.  I am on a mission!!!  Woohoo!

Have a great day blogspot world!

Today I will remove one bag of stuff from my garage

Enjoy the day off with The Hubbie.

PICK A BAG ANY BAG

The other day I came across a blog that had the idea of ridding your life of clutter, aka junk, aka trash, by filing a bag every day for forty days, ending up with forty bags of clutter, aka junk, aka trash, out of your life forever.

I thought that would be easy to handle, something I could do!  No stress, takes up little time, at the end of forty days, loads of stuff g-o-n-e!

The author made a list of areas to clean or something about a list.  The list did not appeal to me.  So, why not tweak it to fit me.  I did.

I pulled out a piece of paper from the copier, divided it in half long ways, numbered the page like so:

Bag 1
Bag 2
Bag 3

and so on with 20 on one side of the paper and 20 more down the middle of the page for a total of

40 bags.

I also had started de-junking that same week so I added the previous junk to the list.  Why?  Because I couldn't get past not counting those two bags that I had donated and because it's my list.  I will do it my way.

Here is my list/accomplishment so far to date:

Bag 1  -  Donated vintage dishes
 Bag 2  -  Donated clothes
 Bag 3  -  Pantry junk
Bag 4  -  Bathroom cabinets junk
 Bag 5  -  Frig junk*

*Our SIL should be proud of me.  I removed ALL of the foods that were out of date.  I found one thing that was way too old.  It made me shiver to think that has been in my frig that long!  Ugh!

Later I may post a pic of my list and the clean areas of my house.  It should look and feel so much lighter!

I reserve the right to miss a day or two but this will be an ongoing project!  So, check back and see how it is going.

STORE CREDIT

Several weeks ago, I posted about a product from the local Lowes store that we purchased.  It was suppose to be good for reviving counter tops that had faded or been damaged.   What a great idea?  Well, it didn't work.  It has chipped already.  Don't buy it!

So, since it was back in the winter, I could not find the receipt.  The Hubbie thought I had it.  I thought The Hubbie had it.  Nope.

I took the product back to the store.  The store gave me a card with store credit on it.  Hooray!  The money is not lost after all.

I spent a bit of the card money on a redneck redo of my porch swing.  It's so bad I don't think I will post a picture but maybe I will, just for laughs.

Any who (not a typo), money is left on the card for a future purchase.  Small one, yes, but the saving money tip for today is don't throw a product or purchase away just because you do not have the receipt.

You may very well be able to get a store credit for a future purchase.

You never know till you try!

SPILLED IT

After posting two things about keeping lids on product tight to avoid spills.  Guess what?

I was tightening the lid to the All, dropped the bottle, the lid popped off and spilled a bunch of liquid into the already filling washing machine.

Prophet.

BETTER IDEA

I mentioned in the previous post to go to Dollar Tree and purchase one of their fabric window shields.  Use it on the driver side window by placing it in the widow and raising the window up to a closed position.

Bad idea.

It may get stuck.

So, instead, open the door, drape it over the top of the door, close the door.  It will still work, not get stuck and not mess up a window.

It's amazing how much cooler the inside of the car will be if you use this trick along with putting a reflector on the dash, across the windshield of your car.

When it's this hot, for this long, we're all looking for ways to be cool!

104

104...that's the temp in Dixie!  We have had days and days of very high temps.  The grass is dying.  We are not watering our grass because of the cost but others are and their grass is dying as well.

Here are a couple of ideas to try to stay cool.....

Use window darkening shades and curtains, keeping them closed all day and night.  You know you're not making drugs so why does it matter if the neighbors are wondering?

If your attic stairway is in the garage, open it about 1/3, leave it open, leave the garage door opened slightly.  It will cause a bit of a draft and the hot air in the attic will be pushed out through the vents in the roof.  (posted this before)

Go to WM, look in the auto department.  They sell a seat cushion that has springs in it to keep air circulating through the cushion.  You will arrive with dry clothes not wet from being over heated in spite of AC.  It is less than $9 and so worth it.

Dollar Tree sells those silver heat blockers for the windows of your cars.  I bought one to put on the driver side window.  Because it is flexible, made of cloth, lower the window, slip the folded visor in, raise the window.  The driver side will be so much cooler!

Always put up the folded window visor.  It lowers the temp in your car by many degrees.

Use floor fans and ceiling fans to keep the temp in the house lower to keep the AC from running so much.

Of course, put the thermostat up to about 74 or 75 unless you have company.  You can dress differently when it's just you and The Hubbie.

Drink water, even if you don't like it, drink it.

Wipe off sweat with a clean dry cloth.  You will cool off faster.  Or use a cool cloth.  Both work.

Use natural deodorants without sweat blockers.  It will allow the body to sweat normally.  Sure you need to check it after a few hours and reapply but you will feel better.

Shower in the morning and at night.  Get the sticky off.  You will sleep better and feel better during the day with two showers.

Eat out.  Why heat up the kitchen?  Grin.

One good thing about it being so hot is even though the washer is set on cold water, the water is actually warm.  It comes out of the hot ground so you have warm water without warming it in the water heater.

So, stay cool.  It is dangerous to get overheated.  You may pass out.  It has happened to me three times now.  I'm taking it slooooow.  I have figured out that it is cooler to wear tops without collars.  The collar will keep heat in the body.  Plus cut your hair shorter to keep hair off your neck, too.  Both are good options to help with body temps or wear it up.

Happy 4th even though it's almost over!

God Bless America, Please.

PRACTICAL MONEY SAVER

Here is a practical tip that you can use everyday.

After showering, bathing or washing dishes, always make sure the cap to the shampoo, body wash or dish detergent is closed securely.

Why?

If the bottle gets tipped over, it will spill out and empty all of the contents down the drain or into a puddle in the sink or tub, wasting product and money.

Sometimes the most practical money saving moves are the easiest.

Enjoy the week and try to stay cool.  It is very hot in Dixie and no rain for weeks.

THOU SHALT NOT GOOGLE

Today I went for an ultrasound on the abdomen.  I've had ongoing problems since Christmas.  I goofed and googled the organs the ultrasound involved.  The liver, the pancreas, the gallbladder and the right kidney.  Bad idea, really bad idea.  Test results to come tomorrow or the next day.

Daughter is on vacation with her Sweet Larry, aka Superman, when she discovered a place on her leg.  Long story short, she has a staph infection on her leg.  Don't google that either, Mom!!

So, note to self....don't google symptoms anymore.  It only causes more fear and worry.  Silly!

Just some free advice to those that might or might not be reading my poor neglected little blog.

GONE

Our neighbor passed away this afternoon.  She died trying to save her 14 year old daughter and her friends while they were enjoying the waters in the Gulf at Panama City, FL.  Sonia was 42.

Sonia was a single mom, working to support her only child, Jordan.  She gave Jordan everything, even an in-ground swimming pool that she paid for with her overtime money from her job one year.  Now Jordan is without her Mom, her hero.

I put a little stuffed animal on her doorstep this afternoon, about the time her Mom left this earth.  I hope it comforts her in some way.

Every one dies.  Some just do it much too soon.

FREE IRIS

Years ago, a lady from at our church was very sweet to share some Iris bulbs from her yard.  They grew for years then two years ago, they 'broke out' in some kind of mildew.  So, we dug them all up but two twigs, thinking they were done.  Now, two years later....tada:

Now I am sharing these with others knowing they are easy to grow and will be enjoyed by them, too.

Sharing flowers are a great free source of sharing God's creation.

Yes, I know I blogged about these a few days ago but thought it would be a good money saving tip for this Tuesday!  Plus now you know the story of these beautiful flowers.

SPEND MONEY TO SAVE MONEY

Sounds silly, doesn't it, but sometimes spending a little money in the beginning will save more money in the long run.  Confused?  No need to be, pretty simple plan.

We have had cable internet for several years now.  We tried the dial up but some things can not be seen on dial up so we switched.  At the start, the rates were really low, of course, but over the years have climbed.  We did have the bundle but have dropped the phone, saving even more money and we went with Majic Jack which is working nicely.

The most recent cutback is purchasing a cable modem online to switch out the company's cable modem.  At the present, we are 'renting' their modem for $7 a month, I think.  To purchase our own was about $25.  Do the math and yes, we will pay for it in less than four months, reducing our cable bill by that rental fee forever, well, as long as we have cable internet.  Time will tell on that one.

Think about it, why rent when you can own your own equipment.

PEDICURE, THE FIRST

Here's a pic of my toenails after my first ever pedicure.

I KNOW!!!  SPEECHLESS, RIGHT? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
My SIL took me for my pedicure.  I loved it!  It was so much fun!  I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing when the guy hit my tickle spot...on my feet, People.  Almost jumped out of the chair!

The man that did my pedicure was from VietNam or somewhere, didn't ask, had a hard time understanding his accent so didn't push it.  I was surprised that he had muscles and broad shoulders for the size of his frame.  I asked him if he worked out, yeah SIL thought that was funny, any who, he said no, ten years of pedicures.

Who knew?!

LIFE GOES ON EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT ON VACATION

Yes, this is almost Friday but seems like Monday.  I did not post any thing on Wordee Wednesday or other days for that matter, we were out of pocket, having fun!

Do you like fortune cookies?  I don't so much to eat the cookie itself but the fortunes inside are usually pretty interesting.  Here are a few that I have been saving:

You will conquer obstacles to achieve success.

You will continue to take chances and be glad you did.

Finally,

You will travel to many exotic places.

Okee dokee then...that's some good news....life continues!

GONE AND BACK

We were out of town for several days and are back now, a day early, boo.

Our only daughter and only SIL were going to fly me on a jet plane to their house for the Mother Day weekend and a few days after that weekend.  Since The Hubbie was out of work, I suggested we both go and drive.  It worked, we left Friday, returned today but were not suppose to come back till tomorrow.  There was a scheduling mix-up, boohoo.  We're home, unpacked the car, watching TV, I now be blogging!

We ate out lots, she took me to her beauty salon for highlights in my hair, first time ever in my life!!  SIL took me to a local nail salon for a pedicure, first time ever in my life!!!  They treated me so nice and I loved it, helps the self image, feeling valued, pampered, days of fun, going, doing!!

Maybe I should post some pics?!  I came home with new hair, glowing toenails, a flashy green purse, a new antique necklace, a new dress, two pants outfits, pretty white cover up from Hamrick's, stuff to Ebay, stuff to share with the GRANDS, a new/old suitcase nicer than one I've ever had plus more!

While we were there, we got to help decorate the nursery for the soon to be GRAND daughter from China!

Plus we had an early Happy 65th Birthday party for The Hubbie, decided to have it there and a family dinner here closer to the actual date.  He was totally surprised.  We reconnected with friends, from long ago and some we saw just last year, great day and fun!!

It was a great few days but went by way too fast!  It's wonderful to visit relatives and feel like you've been on a real vacation!!

WORDEE WEDNESDAY

Some of the things I post on Wednesday are from other websites, fortune cookies or pinterest.  Some of the posts are original but rarely.  Guess you could call this a Dixie disclaimer.  ;)

Yes, I know wordee is spelled wrong.  I like it that way because so many other bloggers choose to have a wordless Wednesday.  I am swimming against the flow and going for words, using the wordee to catch the eye.  Maybe that's another Dixie disclaimer aka excuse.

GAS PRICES

Today's tip for saving money is to buy REAL gasoline for all of your cars or trucks!  I've posted about this before but this is a bit more information for my readers.

A couple of weeks ago, I filled up my little zoom zoom and saw this....

YES, I gasped and did a second look.  I laughed out loud because I thought it was 3,562, wrong, it was only $35.62, breathe deeply.

For several months now, we have been buying our car gas here because it is 100% gasoline.....

The gas mileage on both of our cars has increased!!!  We drive more miles for less gas because we get more miles out of a gallon!  If you are buying  fuel with ethanol, consider going pure gas.  Everyone we have talked to, has had the same results....more miles per gallon!

Plus this is a local, independently owned, business!  It supports the local economy and local families!  You can recognize the business by this banner, too.

They also sell BBQ!!  Check it out!  It's another way to add to the family cash flow by less cash  flowing
O U T !

Permission granted to blog about this biz by the owners...thanks!
