FRIDAY LA DE DA DAY

Time marches on, this is a post on gas prices.

What are you paying? In our state in Dixie, it is UP to 3.69 + per gallon for unleaded, more for super and diesel.

What was it just a few years ago, as in, you know when.... Ready for this?

EVERY KNEE WILL BOW EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS

Man may think that there is no God, that he can escape any relationsip with Him because that man, or woman, doesn't believe, mocks, laughs, ignores. Doesn't matter, He is, always has been, always will be. What will you do with Him?

In this Easter season, let us all remember, celebrate, praise the Truth.

TIME IS MONEY

A common problem around our house is hairspray build up on the bathroom floor. It can be a sticky mess. I found a great way of cleaning it off the floor with little effort.

It is Scrubbing Bubbles! I mop the floor with a wet string mop as normal. Then I spray the area with Scrubbing Bubbles, let it set for a minute or two and use the wet mop again but with rinse water not cleaner on it. Presto mop-o....clean floor!!
This is shower cleaner but any of the Scrubbing Bubbles brand will work great!

MONDAY THOUGHTS

Here is a cute pic of the male GRAND to enjoy. I took it about a year ago. It's Monday and I'm off to work this afternoon. A dollar is a dollar, well, not so much in this economy or when buying gas for the little car. Plus the Tarheels lost in the Sweet 16, didn't watch the game, just heard they lost. But it is a beautiful day in Dixie!! :) Enjoy the world today and all of it's beauty!

EXCELLENT FRIDAY

Interesting week, I had, I did. Training continues for the job, accomplishment and frustration were both on the list. The body is tired, needless to say, the back is aching, mouth is whining.

However, it is Friday!! Friday is usually a pretty good day, every week, all the time.

Years ago, The Hubbie's day off was on Friday. We went to Hardee's for a biscuit, ate at the local cafeteria, a yum plate of veggies for about $2 each, (go back and read the first two words in this paragraph), then homemade pizza for supper, Rice Krispies for dessert. It was 'my' day off, too. No laundry done, little cooking, very few dishes to manage. You get the idea.

Having a day off may not be possible for most people these days because it is so expensive to eat out or there are multiple 'babies' to care for daily, etc. So, the idea is to make the day less stressful and less of what you do on a normal day. It can be a mini vacation even. Take it as far as you can in order to save your sanity, as well as the body.

Here are some ideas:

Do not answer the phone all day. If it is family, work out a code or buy an answering machine. This includes cell phone calls.
Plan the off day as a go to the park day even if you don't go to the park, get out of the house.
Block off time or it will not happen. Make an appointment with the family. No one needs to know it is not for the doc or dentist. You have an appointment, period.
Crockpot something.
Save change from dollars, cash it in to have a fun day, free fun, kinda.
Walk together. Even if it is raining.
Play a game, board or outdoor.
Turn off the tv.
If he doesn't know how, teach husband to iron his own shirts. Oops, did I say that?  Mine does and has for years.
Movie nights are fun, popcorn, eatten while sitting on the floor on a blanket.

Think about it. Is there a way to have a less stress day in order to make your life easier, better, more fun? It is so worth trying!

NAP

Me thinks me needs a nap. Wonder if I will need a blanket?

Probably not because it is 80 degrees in Dixie today. Still, makes me wonder about blankets..... ;)

Didn't take a nap so I'm going to bed early. Work tomorrow.

USE IT UP, WEAR IT OUT, ETC.

Years ago I heard the saying:

Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.

Or something similar to that saying, obviously I am not quite sure if that is how it goes.

Today's hint to save money is.....don't buy it if you don't need it.....here are a few examples of how we have kept things for decades because they didn't wear out!!
1986 JC PENNEY MICROWAVE OVEN
LUSTRE CRAFT POTS AND PANS FROM THE 1970s with a few added
EMACHINE DESKTOP 2001?
TABLES HANDMADE BY THE HUBBIE'S UNCLE COREY early 1970s and LAMPS THAT WERE A HOUSEWARMING GIFT IN 1984 from OUR FRIEND DAVID....

If it isn't broken keep it.

EBAYING

Funny how society develops new words....googling, texting, ebaying....
I have an Ebay site. It started originally to help the youngest with college expenses. Now, I'm doing it to help the parents, The Hubbie and myself. The name, though, is from the youngest, thus:

collegekidsmom

You can search it in the community link and see what I have up for auction. I do post things for another lady in town in order to help her so not everything is 'mine'. It's mostly vintage stuff, which I like.

Check it out....thanks.

WHERE DID WEDNESDAY GO?

I missed posting on this blog yesterday. Here is a copy from Pinterest, a site I go on some but watch it because it can be racey in the evening hours. In the daytime, it's pretty much okay. It is a regular website if you do not join it, you cannot post to it, which is fine with me.

DENTAL INSURANCE

The tip for today is to spend money to save money.

While training for my new little job, I lost a crown on tooth #3. It was $101.00 to patch the crown and re-glue it. Now, it will be OVER $1,400.00 !!!! to do a root canal, post and replace with a new crown.

Spend the money on dental insurance. We have had it most of our lives but were trying to dodge the bullet during this time. Bang! The bullet got us. :)

OPPOSITE THINKING

I woke up early this morning, tried to go back to sleep but it didn't work so laid there thinking. I was thinking about life and opposites because I was thinking about my ebay biz, trying to figure out how to make it work and work bigger.

I was thinking about how crazy shoes sell on Ebay that went to....thinking about people in other countries that don't have shoes...how poor they are but I've never seen a poor king or queen or a poor president....the people do without and the rulers prosper.

That went to thinking about kids to....thinking about how parents spend all their lives taking care of kids, even grown up kids to.....then the parents are ignored and stuck in a nursing home because the kids are too busy or too selfish.

That went to thinking about clothes and what to do about what to wear for Easter....to thinking about cleaning out the closets.

That went to the hair....what to do about a new hairdo.

Hummm....maybe I just need to get up and get going and not staying in a warm cozy bed....thinking. Thinking can be depressing.

Any who....it's Monday and another week! A beautiful day in Dixie!

REPOST OF TIME TO RETIRE

TIME TO RETIRE, READY, SET GO!

We hear every day how much the Baby Boomers are going to cost, how they are going to bankrupt the government, well, to that I say phooey. The Baby Boomers are the only generation that has paid into the retirement system, set up by the U.S. government, all of their lives. For instance, I started paying Social Security when I was 15. My husband did, too.

When we crept towards retirement, we took a year to get ready. How did we do it? We cut all of our living expenses by 50% or more. We made a list of all our expenses, house, utilities, cell phone bill, etc. Then, we set out to find how we could cut those expenses by 50% or more.

Here are a few suggestions, there are hundreds listed on the WWW but these are few we came up with for us.

1 – Husband is a vet, signed up for their services. It has worked out great. Our area has a great VA program, including medical. Check it out.

2 – Joined the family plan with our son for the cell phone bill. This bill alone dropped from $86 per month to $35 for two lines, 400 minutes each and unlimited text. Ask a family member if you can join their plan.

3 - Redecorate with stuff we have, do it according to color. Walk thru the house and gather all green things, all red things, etc., move the one color to a different room, presto new decorations.

4- I spend only paper money and drop the change in my purse. When the purse is too heavy, empty, put the change in jar or bank. I recently filled up my bank, a jar and a second jar. When it was finally counted, we have over $104 in our pockets for fun money. (This is no longer fun money but vacation money. It mounts up over a full year.)

5 - Unplug everything electrical that is not being used. We sleep by a fan and unplug it when we get up. Electricity is running thru the wire even if it is off.

6 - Our Master bedroom is now our guest room. The comforter is washable. I was taking it to the laundry, paying $9 each time to wash it. Now, I take it off the bed, fold it and company sleeps under sheets and blanket only, both washable at the house and no dry cleaning bill.

7- Remake things and use again. My sweet Grandmother did this all her life, long before the word recycle was invented.

8 – Use mini-shaver to do your eyebrows. No pain and no expense.

9 - Love having a pet? Make it a small one. They eat less and have small poop to clean up.

10 - Do not smoke, drink, or eat too much. None of it is good for you and all of it costs money.

Of course, we all know that the best thing is to be debt free, no mortgage, no credit cards, debt free. So work towards that goal. Start today, don’t dilly dally, the clock is ticking.
