SUNDAY SWEETS

On Sunday, I'll post something sweet, a recipe, a poem, a picture, a quote.

Today, is a quote I found on another blog. Every mother, father, grandparent will understand and relate.

"Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body". -- E. Stone

FUN FRIDAY

This is fun Friday for this blog. The fun for today is staying inside, making hot chocolate with marshmellows and taking a nap because it is sleeting, freezing, raining, ice roads and no errands to run.

Life is good in a warm house with a good book and a big green afghan.

Have fun everyone.

THINK ABOUT IT THURSDAY

This might be a big task for this blogger. In an effort to switch gears with this blog, there might, or might not be, a pattern start to emerge. It seems the thing to do is assign topics for days of the week. This morning I woke up and thought, okay, it's Thursday, something to think about would be a good for Thursday, starts with a T, both have th.

Think about this:

When you are around people, are you a complainer?
Are you constantly talking about this pain or another pain?
Are you fun or a whiner?

Well, that's actually three things to think about, but you get the drift.

Think about being nicer to be around, this Thursday, today.

POUTING

Okay, I'm spending the day pouting. It's a designated day to just sit in the house and pout. It's not about The Hubbie. It's my inner temper tantrum. Life isn't so terrific on a Tuesday after a yippee Monday.

But, there is always Wednesday.

Pouting on Tuesday, getting over it, moving on, no feeling sorry for me, no inner temper tantrum tomorrow.

Interesting how long a pouting day can be, worth it? Don't know, all humans do it. I'm just being human.

YIPPEE MONDAY

Today was a yippee day! I was so excited I had trouble sleeping last night, awake past 2:35 AM.

Several things were accomplished plus I got to see the GRAND baby. He is sick, strep throat, poor precious, sugar pie honey bun!! Mommy and Daddy are very tired. A sick little one, even if he's a very good baby, is hard on the adults. They lose sleep, energy is drained, eyelids are heavy.

On the way home, made a stop at the Hobby Lobby in an effort to find fabric to recover the high chair, nothing. Then went by The Hubbies biz to have him sign a check, stopped at the bank, deposited it.

Now, I am at the house, blogging, listening to the radio. Supper is done because I doubled the stir fry recipe from Saturday supper. The Hubbie wanted a hamburger yesterday so the stir fry is still available for consumption.

Tonight will be a clam evening, as far as I know. I love being at home with The Hubbie. We still enjoy each other's company after all these years, 42+.

Thankful for a yippee Monday, today, 1/25/2010, and a calm evening at the end of the yippee.

TORNADO -- UPDATED

A tornado touched down in the town where The Hubbie works. He and his crew stood at the front of the store and watched it pass by them. It was far away enough that it did not damage anything near them, close enough to see and take pictures.

The local news has been on for three hours covering it all. There have been three people injured but no one killed, so far that we know at this time.

Weather is scary. Most of my life, I have lived in areas where hurricanes are dominant. I absolutely hate tornado weather.

Why?

Because they come up so fast, with very little warning. At least with hurricanes, there are several days warning. True, they may last a bit longer but there is time to prepare.

So, that's the post for today. We are safe and sound at home. Relief.

CAN DO

Today, I worked on another stack of papers in an effort to clean out more stuff. I am not a hoarder but I do keep too many articles that are years old, out of date, etc. I found this saying and thought it would make a good post.

Can Do

Did is a word of achievement.
Won't is a word of retreat.
Might is a word of bereavement.
Can't is a word of defeat.
Ought is a word of duty.
Try is a word of each hour.
Will is a word of beauty.
Can is a word of power.

BUSY DAY

Today was a busy day. Several errands were accomplished including a visit to the sleep doctor.

It's very foggy in Dixie tonight. If the house across the street did not have it's lights on, it would not be seen. Fog this thick is dangerous for folks on the road driving. It's a foggy end to a busy day.

When I was a child, the days were very long. Summer vacation was very long. It was a very long time till Christmas. As an adult, nothing is very long.

As a I left the sleep doctor today, I had to schedule my next appointment. The date is one year from today, 2011. It set me back a second when she asked me what time.

I told the receptionist if this year goes by as fast as last year, this appointment will seem like it's just next week.

Are the days getting shorter or are we just busier?

58 DEGREES

The temp today, as I drove by the large billboard with the time and temperature display, was 58 degrees. I actually opened the moon roof that doubles for a sun roof on my little zoom zoom, Honda. Yes, I did a double take when I saw a man riding in his little car with no shirt. It is nice outside but not that nice.

Here is a picture to remind us of the cold, with more to come. Hey, it's still January, everybody.

Be slow to pack away those gloves, Dixie.

SCREAMING BY ME

Is life screaming by as fast for you as it is for me? I wake up and it's Saturday already. I slept late, which was nice. Is it funny that I have to stop and think what day it is? Or is it just weird?

Yesterday, I spent some time thinking about starting another blog for empty nesters. I thought I had a snappy title for it but that title is already being used but not for the same thing I was thinking. I tried several other titles, all taken.

So, I may just keep using this one and shift gears for the entire blog. I started this blog as a diversion to keep me from being so depressed after an on the job injury. It worked because it gave me something to look forward to doing. It's been a simple, personal blog. It's something I never thought I would enjoy doing, wrong, I do enjoy it. It is a great diversion.

I spend so much time on the computer, the laptop, I wonder how I ever worked?!

Oh yeah, it is Saturday, after all.

TODAY

Today was a fun day.

The oldest Son drove down with the GRAND baby. We had lunch, fried potatoes, chicken, ranch beans, corn, rolls, and a snack from the Exxon station.

The GRAND baby continues to get better with the walking thing. He lets go and stands alone, waiting for all of the adults in the room to cheer, praise, clap, for him. He holds on to furniture unless there is no furniture around, then he crawls to his desired location.

After we ate, the three of us, including The Hubbie, who was off today, sat around talking about the past, present, and future.

Today - Priceless.

GOD SEEKER

Are you seeking God?

Get a Bible, buy, borrow, check one out from the library, or read it online.

Look up these verses in the book of Romans. Romans is in the New Testament, which is towards the back of the Bible. The first number is the chapter. The second number is the verse.

Romans 3:23

Romans 6:23

Romans 10:9-10

Ask God to show Himself to you. He will. Heaven in your future is what you do about God sending His Son, Jesus. Pray, ask forgiveness, and Jesus into your heart.

Read this verse, in John, fourth book in the New Testament.

John 3:16

Read the Bible, no companion books. It's His Word and He is waiting on you.

God Bless You in your journey.

1/11/1957

This is my little brother's birthday. He has not been with us for many years now. You see, he was killed on his Harley motorcycle.

He was stopped, waiting for traffic to pass so he could turn left. It was on a residential street with very little traffic. Two of his friends were riding in a truck behind him, waiting with him to turn left. They saw the whole thing.

Suddenly, another motorcycle zoomed on the left side of the stopped truck, trying to pass it, which it did.

But, as my brother was turning, it hit him just behind the seat. My brother was thrown into the air, landed on the gravel, on the corner of the street. The other motorcycle driver was thrown 60', hit the pavement with his head and was killed instantly, leaving a huge blood spot on the street.

My brother was killed instantly, too. His internal organs were crushed by the other bike, traveling 80 miles per hour. The driver was on drugs.

You see, my brother was doing nothing wrong, quite the opposite. He was observing the traffic laws, etc. He was still killed, still dead.

It's been a sad day for me. I've made it through another year. I will see him again someday.

GOD IS GONNA GETCHA

The Hubbie takes my car to work on Saturday. His little car does not have cruise control, mine does. By the time Saturday gets here, he is so tired, legs hurting, swollen, that just the comfort of cruise control helps him make the trip home.

I have his car on Saturday. I don't like his car. It is a simple, no frills roll up the windows by hand, automatic transmission, manual lock doors, air conditioning included, Toyota. It does have a radio, which was on when I got into the car yesterday. The station was one I was not familiar with. I am mostly a talk radio only kind of gal.

The song was, at first, a Christian song, but then the next song was a country music song so I'm not sure what kind of station it was or is. The title of the song was GOD IS GONNA GETCHA. I about dropped my teeth, another Southern term, meaning I was shocked.

The song was very country style, sung by a mixed group, meaning men and women voices. The whole idea of the song is God is going to punish you for all the bad things you do. I listened to it but did not like it.

For years, I lived under the gonna getcha ideology. I was miserable. I was sitting down on the outside but standing up on the inside, meaning I was going along but not agreeing.

Stop and think about it. Either God is a kind, loving, Heavenly Father, or He isn't.
For years, I thought He was up in Heaven, baseball bat in one hand, lightning bolts in the other, just waiting for me to step out of line so He could zap me. I realize now that it is not God but the system we were in for many years.

Do we do bad things, hurt our children, to make them love us? No. Then why should we view God in that light? The answer is, no, we should not.

DIXIE ICE

This is a picture of icicles on the side of a mountain. I pulled off the road and tried to line the picture up with the road signs on the left side of the picture. The drippings are just water that has frozen. They are HUGE. Just look at the size compared to the tall signs.

More proof it's cold in Dixie. Some of us are LOVING it, others are not, but we all have to have something to complain about, don't we? ;)

Blabbering

This is just some blabbering with no real focus or subject.

I went to a place I have never been. I went to an orthodontist, remember how old I am, 61, I be. My teeth are separating rapidly. Yes, they can be saved, kept from falling out of my head.

The problem is, I may be loosing bone so the next step is an appointment with a periodontist, correct spelling is unknown. If that problem is not corrected with a bridge, then the corrections made with the braces will not last.

The braces will take 21 months, which means I will be almost 64, right? If I live to my life expectancy, which is 83ish, it would be worth the sacrifice. If I only live another year or two, I would still want to live it with straight teeth.

Also, stopped by Office Max and did a quick survey of some printing products.

For supper, we had a Kroger Deli chicken, southern potato salad, only $1 on sale this week. I came home, opened a can of Ranch Beans, pulled out some rolls and it was a meal.

Tomorrow is going to be even colder in Dixie so the plan is to stay home, bake, make soup, a casserole, pot of beans, stuff like that. If the soup turns out yum, I will run some over to two shut-in friends.

So, it's going to be a slow rest of the week, unless something comes up, which may.

I am considering a new plan for this blog. It will be a time to think about the plan some more.

Political Corruption

It's a sad day when our country has the platform of political corruption. The sad day has arrived.

I worked for the State of Alabama for two years and saw it first hand. Although I was never a player, I saw others that were.

Here is a website I would like for you to checkout.

www.Alabama2010.com

It's not only in Alabama but in every state of the Union as well as in Washington, DC.

Is this what you want to leave to your children? Grandchildren?

Pay attention, please. Forward the link to anyone that lives here. Thank you.

DIXIE RECORD LOW TEMPS

Yep, we're having record breaking LOW temperatures in Dixie. It is very cold out and snow is expected later in the week.

You know this is coming....what about global warming, huh??????!!!!

Anyone that has bought into that lie needs to rethink and ask for a refund for your global carbon footprint money.

Leave it behind in 2009 and don't do it again in 2010 (Dr. Phil).

Resolutions

Resolution time. It's suppose to happen this time every year.

Resolution as defined by Webster is the act or process of reducing to simpler form. There are several other definitions but this is the first one listed.

The definition puts life in perspective, don't you think? So, I resolve to not make any resolutions, only to reduce life to a simpler form.

Last year, I decided to reduce the junk I own by 50%. I did and it was a amazingly freeing. We also made an effort to reduce our expenses.

Here are a few things we did:

Started purchasing food from the Angel Food Ministries
Rent movies from Red Box
Drive less
Add water to milk when using mixes
Unplugged all electrical devices not in use

It was more difficult than I thought because I have been a penny pincher for years but we did accomplish changes. We have zero credit card debt, only buy used cars, live on cash basis, etc. The debt we do have is our house, which the payments are less than rent so we continue to chip away at the mortgage.

This year, I hope, plan to do these things:

live a good life
get healthy
watch language, stop saying crap, jackass to self, other drivers
read more
become a better aim when shooting
move more
smile more
continue to reduce expenses
grow home biz to get the Hubbie retired, him with the GRAND baby

Life can be and should be simpler, accomplish the goal for 2010.

1/01/10

Love the posting 1/01/10. It's the first and last time that will be the date until 3010. We will be long gone by then.

We slept in a bit late today. I got up, showered, dressed, drove to Hardee's for my medium Diet Coke, lite ice, with a plain biscuit, no butter. On the way to and back from Hardee's I noticed there were less cars on the street, passing me by, than there were lined up, in the drive thru, at the restaurant. I love living in a small town, not too small, but just the right size.

Then we did the bills, paid some online, others via mail, caught up the checkbook. It was time for lunch. We headed to the near by town for the Ryan's lunch. It was a different price for a holiday, of course, but steak all day, so we got water and 'saved' four bucks.

WM was on the list so we stopped there, shopped a bit, picked up some needs and a few wants, plus a movie from the Red Box.

Have you tried the Red Box? It's great. Movies for rent for only $1 per night, fast check out, fast check in, cheap, another way we are cutting our expenses.

I digress, is that a word?

We are home, Hubbie is about to take a nap in the chair. I think I will cuddle on the couch less I wake him up with all of this typing, good excuse, don't you think?

So, another day starting another new year. It is one of my favorite days of the year.
