CHANGE AS IN COINS

Everything seems to be going UP in price. You name it...
Gas
Diamond rings
Bread
Pizza Sauce
Grass seed

Crazy days are here. What is a person to do to save money? Well, spend less. Budget what you do have coming in monthly. Get creative.

Do you know that most clothes that say dry clean only can be washed by hand in cold water with a mild detergent? Yeah, it's true. (Would not recommend this for The Hubbie's suits!!!!) The only thing I have taken to the dry cleaner this year is a big winter coat which I have not even worn because winter in Dixie has been almost non-existent this year!!

Years ago. I talked to a man who actually owns a dry cleaner, well, several. I asked him how they dry clean clothes, what do they use. He told me they wash everything. I said, everything? Yes, everything. I didn't really believe it so I continued to spend the dough on the clothes. It was like paying for the outfit over and over. Over the years, I stopped buying dry clean only clothes. Still sometimes, it is not possible because everything seems to say dry clean only. Conspiracy?

I've stopped spending the money on dry cleaning. Always test the fabric if you can or be willing to loose the garment in case the fabric messes up. Nothing has been ruined, so far, but you never know.

A penny saved is a penny earned, not dry cleaning garments can add lots of pennies, dimes and quarters to the budget.

FUNERAL

Today is my friend's funeral. Death is part of living. There are times it seems to come too soon. Even though, it is written down, decided by God, unknown to man, the time, it will happen. Those left are the ones that are rarely 'ready' for it to come.

Peace to the family, please, today, Heavenly Father.

HEAVEN

My sweet friend, Elizabeth V., passed away yesterday. Life is too short. So thankful she was a faithful servant of the true God all of her life. She was a blessing! I miss her already.

COUNTERTOP MONEY

Several years ago, I did a boo boo. I was cleaning the bathrooms with a spray cleaner that contained bleach. Not knowing that it would cause a problem on the countertops, I put the container on the countertop and continued to clean, plus it faded the surface. This is what happened:
Since we really cannot afford to replace the countertops at this point, we tried this:
This is the result:

Yes, I goofed and did it to the master bath, too, so that is next to do, well, for The Hubbie to do.

Here are the negatives:
This stuff stinks! Arrange to be out of the house a few DAYS and NIGHTS till it cures/sets!
Do not plan to use the area for at least five (5) days and nights!
It looks great at first but does not wear well, suggest a clear coating of some kind to protect it!
Probably a really bad idea to use on a surface that might experience extreme heat, even with the clear coating, yeah, bad, bad idea.

Here are the positives:
Barely used any out of the can for one bath sink and side of cabinet! $16 per can!
It is CHEAP!
The color choices are really nice! Get this at Lowes, just ask for it.
It is CHEAP!
No replacing countertops! Saves $$$$ and no reconstruction mess.
It is CHEAP!

PRESIDENTS DAY

Today is a national holiday called President's Day. The Post Office is closed, I'm pretty sure, and other government offices. Years ago, we honored our first president George Washington and then later in the month, Abraham Lincoln. Now, those two days are combined. It's sad that the Christian aspects of these men are being removed from our history. It would be good to research and learn about what type of character each had.

This is a beautiful place in the State of Washington. The owner continually encourages Americans to BE Amercians. It would be a nice place to visit.

FRIDAY NO DAY

It is Friday already, again, still, always. Read on the Internet that a Prince was buried in an avalanche, he is alive but still in danger, you never know what a day will bring.

I slept late because the back was cramping from sitting on a church pew too long so I took one, not two, night time pain relievers and hit the hay about midnight. Today we, me and the old back, are better.

Sitting here, blogging, I've decided it's going to be a no day, meaning, no, I'm not doing anything I don't want to do today, no. I probably will, of course, but mentally it's a no day. No, you cannot have a no day if you have kiddos at home, no you cannot have a no day if you work today. No days are for oldies that can put everything off till a yes day, meaning tomorrow, or Monday, or whenever. :)

Have a nice weekend everyone!

PAUSE AND THINK

So many times in our busy lives, we fail to look around and see some of the hurt that others are carrying. I was surfing the web last night, waiting for my Ebay auctions to close when I saw this video. I have watched it several times over the years. I tear up every time.

True, I have three wonderful grown kiddos but there was a time, after kiddo #1 that I had cancer, the choice was surgery or 50/50 chance to survive. I started crying, the doc started crying, very emotional. I wanted another baby so I took the risk. Little did I know that not only would I survive but God would give me two more babies. I am a blessed Mom!

Others are dealing with deep hurt that will never heal because they are or were childless. Some by choice, others not. Take a few minutes to watch this....

GAS SAVING TIP

I was scrolling thru my blog notes and found this info about saving money on gas:

Money-Saving Tips for Pumping Your Gas
I don’t know what you may be paying for gasoline but we are paying $3.75 to $4.10 a gallon. At these prices filling up is more than a few dollars, so, here are some tricks to get more for your money:

•Buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal. When gasoline gets warmer it expands. Buying in the afternoon or in the evening, after the ground has warmed up, means – your gallon is not exactly a gallon.
•When you’re filling up do not set the trigger of the nozzle to a fast setting. Most triggers have three settings: low, middle, and high. You should pump on low mode, thereby minimizing the amount of vapors that are created while you are pumping. If you pump on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.
•One of the most important tips is to fill your gas tank when it is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more gas you have in your tank the less air is occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine!
•Also, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks, DO NOT fill up; most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered and you might pump in some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Not sure where it came from so you know it is copied--

HOMESCHOOLING

Didn't homeschool our kiddos, sent them to Christian school, wish at times I had homeschooled but I lacked the confidence in math and science. We decided we didn't want to throw out children to the wolves of the world and I love this quote!

TEXTING AND DRIVING

Recently, I posted a video on FB about texting and driving. It was over ten minutes long so I will not post it here. I was thinking about the horrible results that checking or sending messages can do or be, not every one dies. Some face a life of disability. Sad either way....

Texting driving is distracted driving.
Talking on the cell phone while drive is distracted driving.

WHATEVER it is, it can wait!

YOU NEVER KNOW

Saturday, I was on the web, checking out a few websites. I went back to an old favorite, NARMS. It is a site for jobs in the retail industry. I love doing merchandising for all kinds of reasons.

Part time
Good pay
Leave when you are done and go home
Don't sit in an office all day
Feel like you accomplish something that stays more than 8 hours, like housecleaning, get my drift?

I saw a job opp and applied, not knowing that I would even get a call back because of The Hubbie's difficulty in finding a job, any how, Monday, got a very nice phone call, Tuesday a second phone interview, thinking I will hear back something on Monday, as the second interview said, Wed, I get an email congrats on becoming a new hire, fill out this paperwork, please.

I'm going back to work. Part time, only, it's all I want and all that makes sense. It will help pay my COBRA which is $434 per month for me only!

You just never know......

La la la, la la la, etc.

Words on Wednesday, what to say? La la la, la la la, la la la la la, la, la la la...... the words to the Jeopardy song, well, not really, did you just go back and try to sing it out? Snickering.

This is the first day of F E B U R A R Y !!!!!!!!!!!!!! What?! Already, we're thinking, where did January go???????? It did, bye bye in the blink of an eye, wondering if this year will do the same? I was typing, rather rambling on about something, and realized that this is 2012 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are twelve YEARS past the Millenium, 2000 !!! We thought so many things would go wrong when the century turned but it didn't. It just turned, without a hitch, figure that?! Now, to be twelve !!!! years beyond that mark, seems like we should still be typing 19-- something, nope, hasn't been that way in over a decade and will never be that way again.

A dear friend of mine, JoAnne, has three beautiful girls, all grown up now, I remember when they were all born! The oldest just had her second baby, a boy, after a sweet little girl who is now 4, already. The next is getting married in April, which is only days away. The baby girl is a senior this year and will go away to college in the Fall. How can that be? They should all still be little, right? You know your own children are growing up but, hey, other chidren do it, too?! Yeah, they do. All too fast, I might add.

I am wondering what is going on? Is time going by fast for a purpose? Years ago, we heard an old preacher, evangelist say that as the end of time got closer, time would go by faster. I think he was right!

Enjoy today because in a few hours, it will be tomorrow, today gone. It's just happening all too fast for me.....see.....
