MONEY SAVING TIP

Today is Tuesday, time for a money saving tip.  Life is strange, you know.  I was scanning the local newspaper when I saw an article about how people are spending money in spite of the tax increase.  I wonder if that's true.  You never know anymore if what you read is legit or a smoke screen.  It's a sad world when you can trust almost no one.

So, my tip for today is trust no one.  Never co-sign a loan.  Never loan money to people outside of the family.  Never fall for a deal if it sounds to good to be true.

Another way of putting it is to keep your money close, if you have any, that is.  If you do have money, save it for your old age.  Look out for your family first.  We have given away thousands of dollars to others in need and to the church.  Here we are in our sixties and The Hubbie is still having to work.

Live and learn.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Save for a rainy day.

It's all true.

TERRORISM IN AMERICA

A friend posted this on Facebook.  I thought it was interesting and puts all of this insanity into perspective.  These people should be punished to the full extent of the law.  Time will tell.  Here are the facts:

What does this tell you?  The last six mass shootings were NOT done by a 'right wing extremist nut job Tea Partyer"!  Quite the contrary, don't you think?!  Have you heard any of this on the evening news or even a 24/7 news channel?  Hypocrites, all of them.

Rant over.

MONEY SAVING

Living in Dixie is wonderful.  The lifestyle is laid back, easy going, slow, pick one.  It's great.  I was born in the deep South, was a Navy brat, then moved multiple times because The Hubbie was in ministry.  That's another blog post.  However, there is a negative about living in Dixie that I will reveal today.

Pollen.

Yep, that yellow green stuff that appears every Spring.  It is the dreaded pollen.  When it arrives it stays around.  It covers everything.  The buildings, cars, front porches, roads, everywhere.  If you open the window, the pollen will come on in, really!  It's pretty ugh.  We all wait for rain to wash it away.

This year, the rain came, washed it all away, but it came back.  Yes, it's everywhere, round two.

My money saving tip is this:

Instead of taking my car through the $10 car wash a second time, I took it to the self serve car wash, costing a mere $1.50, six quarters.  Yes, you have to spray it yourself then dry it off yourself but all of the pollen is gone, my waxed car is still shiny and I saved $8.50.  I use to take my car thru the car wash weekly, now, it only goes when it really, really needs it which is probably closer to once every three months.

Gotta love it.  Saving money, that is, not the pollen.  Ahchoo!

TODAY APRIL 15, 2013

Today is a day that has mixed emotions for this blogger.

1 - Boston, oh my, Boston.  Evil is alive and well and innocent people have died, suffering, you know the feeling.  It's the same as 9/11/2001.   Yes, dare I say, after Ft Hood, Texas?!  Yes, I say.

2 - It is Tax Day in the USA.  All Americans are suppose to file their tax reports from last year, 2012.  Most will, some will skip it.  It is the law so do it.   We always file our taxes, always early.  It's just easier and less stress.

3 - This is my mother's birthday.  She would have been 84 today.  It's very hard to imagine her at 84, why?  You see, she died at the age of 58 of breast cancer that spread throughout her body.  My dad died at the age of 55 of a horrible brain tumor.  She lived past the age of 55 and on to 58.  Gone so many years now.

Still, I consider myself blessed.  God is good.  Life is good.  Just keep breathing as long as He allows it.  It's worth it.

SALLY MONEY TIP

Several years ago, I had a Sally's card.  It is a beauty supply business and is nationwide.  I let my card expire.  Today, I stopped in to renew the old card, which I was able to do and was given a new card with new number, same information.  Because of my Senior Citizen status, the card was only $2.50, not the $5.00 I paid the last time.

Plus, tada, at the bottom of my receipt is a $5.00 off $5.00 coupon, good tomorrow thru the end of May!!!

Thanks, Dinah, for reminding me!  Love a bargain!  This is her blog:  http://dinahsoar.blogspot.com/

WALKING

This is an attempt to get me back.

Years ago, a friend and I would meet at our children's school, maybe 45 minutes before dismissal time, and we would walk.  My husband said our mouths would move faster than our feet, any who, I digress.  It was a great time to get exercise!  It was a time of commitment to each other and to our weight loss journey.  I appreciate Gail for putting up with me all those miles!

Since I fell in 2007, my exercise has been next to nothing.  I was injured but if you read this blog, you know that is the reason I started the blog.  But, it is time for me to get my strength back in this old body.  It is really past time.  So, I've started walking almost daily.  Not on the weekend so far but during the week.  It's been GREAT!

How do I do it?  I get dressed, walk outside and put one foot in front of the other.   I walk as far as I can until I get tired and then go a bit further.  I've also walked at the mall in the near by larger town a couple of times.  I've also walked the inside of our local WM Superstore.  I make myself do it.  I'm the only one that can do it for myself!  No one else is responsible or able.

So, I may not ever be a marathon runner but I can walk and so can you.  It is something we need to do in order to live longer, feel better and be stronger.

Hip, hip, hooray for me and for you!  Do it!  Put one foot in front of the other and take a step then another and another.  You'll be tickled you did!  (Southern term, y'all)

BIG MISTAKE

Although life is a series of ups and downs, I realize that I can control some things more than others.  For years, I allowed others to control me, trying to be a good Christian.  No longer do I allow toxic people to influence me.  God is my Heavenly Father.  He accepts me as I am.  I no longer need to measure up to a man in a suit or a list of rules.

Need a good book to read?  Try 'The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse'.  It is a great book and a key to being set free from those in the Christian world who are out for themselves.  They abuse and use their staff and their people.

Here is a good thought.....the first shall be last!

I'm sitting here GRINNING!

FRIENDS

Life is good when you have friends.  Although I do not have friends that I hang out with where I live now, I do have friends in other states.  You can always tell a good friend.  You pick up right where you left off almost like completing a sentence.  You stop in the middle but pick up again, as if you had never even parted by email, phone, text or in person.  God is good to give wonderful friends!  I like this.  It's from my young son's soon to be fiance's brother.  Long sentence but clarification was given for the credit.  Thanks, Ben.

MONEY TIPS

Yes, yes, I know, I have neglected this poor little blog once again.  It's okay, it's not my life nor do I make any money from it so I post when I want to post.  BIG GRIN!

Here are a couple of saving money tips that I have incorporated recently:

1.  Saturday, the local grocery store had 4 pound bags of Domino Sugar for a low, low price of $1.99.  I had 3 coupons for $.50 each, that doubled to $1.00.  I was happy to purchase three (3) bags of sugar, 4 pounds each, for the ridiculous price of only $.99 per bag!  Yep, read it again, if you must.  It means that I walked out of the store with twelve (12) pounds of sugar for only $2.97, plus tax of course.  You do remember that I do not count tax because tax credit is not given on the coupons.  So, that was a good deal, don't you think?  I do.

******Last year I had a similar deal, stocked up on sugar, which I still have one bag left, so this should last us well over a year.  Deal time!!!*****

2.  A few months ago, I purchased a shower curtain that was guaranteed for life to not have mildew collect on it.  Well, you figured it out, mildew collected.  I scrubbed it down a couple of times only to have it collect again.  This time, after a good inspection, I noticed the mildew was collecting along the bottom of the shower curtain where the plastic was turned up to form a hem.  Bright idea......I cut it off!  Yes, I used an index card as my guide so I would not have to take the curtain down or re-hang.  The card was placed on the bottom of the curtain and I cut it off at the top of the card.  Tada!  A pretty even cut all the way across the bottom of the shower curtain!  No more mildew!  I sprayed the curtain down with Scrubbing Bubbles, let it sit, then rinsed it off.  A like new shower curtain!!  The cut off part?  In the garbage, gone, yuck!  The shower water now runs down the curtain with no place for the excess to collect.  So, no mildew.

3.  Do you know that the Dollar Tree now takes coupons?  Manufacturer coupons for a specific item.  So, I purchased a stock of Hefty sandwich bags, storage bags, each box only $.25 after coupon.  This part of the tip is not new.  The new part is the fact that two (2) sandwiches can fit into one (1) sandwich bag!  Zip and it's closed!  Hubby brings them home so I use them twice if they are clean.  By using this technique, the bags end up costing about one penny each or less!

4.  Finally, this is a tip about toilet paper.  Can you believe it is so expensive?!  Ridiculous.  Anyway, I purchased 4 rolls of Scott at my local CVS for $2.99 per package.  I stood there contemplating toilet paper.  There was a larger size but even with a coupon, the smaller package was a better price per roll.  So, don't always assume that bigger is always better.  There are times that the smaller deal is the better deal.  A handy dandy calculator can help with that type of decision.

LIFE CAN BE TOUGH.  SAVING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY CAN HELP MAKE LIFE A BIT EASIER.
