OVER 300 DEAD

The State of Alabama has suffered terrible loss of life in the recent breakout of storms with tornadoes. As of today, the count is 334 have perished.

The damage to property is in the billions, some residents will never recover.

We are thankful our county did not have anything other than bad storms.

We are fine. Our house is fine. We also now have power, including Internet and phone.

It's been a nightmare for many and will continue to be so.

31 DAYS TO CLEAN

This blog is about a new e-book I found out about on Facebook. A few of my younger friends had the link posted. I checked it out and found I could get a free copy of the e-book titled '31 Days to Clean'. I'm going for it!

Even though I am almost at the 44 year mark of being married, cleaning for 44 years, reading many books about the subject, I'm always opened to new ideas.

Besides, if you think it's hard to stay motivated to clean when you're young.....? Just try to stay motivated when you've been doing it for as long as I have...zzzzzz.

Here is the link:

You will need to copy and paste.

$11.60

The tip for today is how I made $11.60.

I recycled cans! Yep, took 4 bags of coke cans and 1 of tin cans. The company paid me $11.60.

Ten dollars went into the vacation jar. $.60 went into the piggy bank and I spent $1.

Free money for what would have been garbage.

RELAY FOR LIFE

Tonight was the dinner for our local cancer Relay for Life. The Relay for Life is to raise funds for cancer research, as well as, honor the survivors and those lost to the dreaded disease.

The oldest survivor was first diagnosed in 1959, that's right, 1959. The youngest survivor in attendance tonight was only 18. There were people of all ages present as survivors and care givers.

We all have our own story to tell.

Friday is the walk. I'll post pictures then.

It's a time to reflect and be thankful for every breath since diagnosis, for all of us.

THINKING ABOUT AGE

Today was take a short trip, meet the older son half way to pass off his dry cleaning because his suit was needed for this Sunday....translation: I got to see the GRANDs! Well, deliver the dry cleaning, too, but what's important? heehee

(WHAT IS THAT NOISE? SCROLL DOWN TO APRIL 10 POST)

Heard something on the radio that was interesting....

College age kids do what they do because they are at the age that they don't know how much they don't know.

HELEN KELLER

Do you know that Helen Keller is from Alabama? Her childhood home is here.

Here is a beautiful quote from her.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

TODAY'S BARGAIN

Today I made a trip to the near by town for several errands....meeting, dry cleaners, lawyer's office, etc. I'm too pooped to pop, whatever that means.

Anywho...a quick stop was made at the JC Penney's Outlet store. I am redoing the house, trying not to buy anything, but found I needed two king size pillows for the shams I am moving from the master to the back bedroom. So, money, required.

I found a two pack of king size pillows marked 9.99, regular price $29.99. I strolled to the checkout, proud of my find. When, to my surprise, the bill totaled just over $7 with tax! Shazam, woohoo, and goodie goodie gum drops. There was a sale on all gray ticketed items. TWO (2) King Sized pillows for about $3.50 each!

There are some days you save money without realizing you're doing it! So try shopping at JCP Outlet Stores for some good deals.

TIME FLYS

Is FLYS a word?

Since Monday is usally about me, I have been pondering the thought of time flying. Even though I can no longer work, I wonder where the days go. Do you? Is it just me?

All of these time saving devices.....
computer
washer
dryer
dishwasher
vaccuum
stoves
frig
microwave

But where is time? A friend and I were a bit perplexed about this situation. We start a Monday, turn around and it's Thursday. Crazy. I'm repeating myself. I blogged about this not long ago. Guess I'm in a rut.

2 THINGS ABOUT TODAY

It's been raining in Dixie all day. It's a slow, constant, occassionally heavey, rain. It looks like flowers are swelling, ready to pop open their blooms just today.

It's been a slow day with little accomplished other than rest, ahhhhhh.

Today would have been my Mother's 81st BD. She passed away from breast cancer that spread through her skeletal system. She was on morphine the last six month of her life. She was 58 years old.

When you loose your parents, you loose the past....
When you loose your mate, you loose the present....
When you loose a child, you loose the future.......

Cancer is a terrible disease. Maybe, someday, there will be a cure.

YUCK YUCK AND MORE YUCK

We're up way too early getting ready to go have some medical tests done on the aging body. The prep is horrible. The procedure not so bad because I will be out.

I have the worst headache in my life so am very ready to get it done.

Modern medicine is great but seems like it almost kills you to get you better or make sure there is nothing wrong.

Thus the title, YUCK YUCK AND MORE YUCK.

SAVING MONEY

Today I had several errands to do. One of them had me cross paths with a young lady that told me about something I had not heard before today.

She said that if you have Charter Cable, you can get points for things like paying your bill on time, etc. The points can be used for two things.

1 - pay your cable bill, saving cash
2 - bidding on items for sale on their website

From what I understand, there are other companies that are doing this, too. American Express is one. So, check it out, you may be able to get credit towards your monthly bills, putting cash in your wallet!

I'm checking.

APRIL

It's April! Well, a few days past the first but it's a new month, still April.

I didn't play any jokes this year. Last year I wrote my GRANDson's name on my left arm with a majic marker and it looked like a tattoo. Then posted it on FB. I should find that pic......such a bad girl, I am. heehee

Happy Monday and Happy April!

HONEYBUN CAKE

This recipe is from a long time friend. She is my forever forty friend, long story. Her name is Sunny, well, her nickname is Sunny. Her real name is very different than Sunny. Sunny fits her much better! Her notes are included.

Honeybun Cake

1 box yellow cake mix
3/4 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1/2 cup water
8 oz sour cream (plus an extra dollop, if desired)

Mix all ingredients together. Pour half of batter into greased 13 x 9 pan.

Mix together: 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar*, 1-1/2 Tblsp cinnamon

Sprinkle half of the cinnamon and sugar mixture over the cake batter. Pour in remaining half of batter, spreading over cinnamon/sugar. Top with remaining cinnamon/sugar mixture. Swirl mixture with spatula or knife to spread cinnamon/sugar mixture through cake.

Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.

Mix glaze of 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla extract and enough milk to spread easily.** Drizzle glaze over top of warm cake.

*Sometimes I pay the difference to get the measured cups of brown sugar. This saves measuring.

**I put enough milk to make a glaze that will pour rather than spread over cake. This soaks into the cake and helps make it more moist.

Finished cake looks like a huge honeybun and is really good. Like a sweet coffee cake. It's good anytime, but boy would it be good in the winter with a pot of coffee!!
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

This is going to be the last Sweet Saturday post for awhile. The Hubbie is off on Saturdays now so I want to spend more time with him. I may switch to a different day for the sweets postings. We'll see.
