Okay, this is just stupid....

I was riding down the street and noticed this going on in the lane next to me. These are strangers, I do not know who they are or where they are going but I thought I was going to have a 'cow' (Southern term for freak out!). All I could do was sit, watch in fear and shake my head no.

Because you see, this is a grown up with a child trying to hold on while riding a motorcycle.

Here are things that are dangerous to me:

1 - the child has little to actually hold for security (arms do not go around adult)
2 - the child is wearing an adult helmet which would fly off if the child was ejected
3 - the child could be ejected at any moment by any number of goofs by the adult
4 - what would happen if another vehicle just tapped this cycle? Or totally slammed into it?
5 - there was a huge SUV following close behind....the cycle switched lanes, the SUV switched lanes..the cycle turned, the SUV turned..I looked and saw that it was a woman, probably the mother, panicked look on her face, following too close (look in the mirror at the SUV...how close and how big it is)
6 - if the child fell off, the mother would not have time or room to stop and would probably run over this innocent baby
7 - no speed is safe on a public road, in traffic, or for that matter on a private road with no traffic

You see, dear reader, there are people that use to be in my life that are no longer in my life because the simple reason, they were riding a motorcycle. They were not breaking the law, going to fast, or doing anything wrong. If they had been in a car, truck or big SUV, they would be alive today.

To me, having a motorcycle is asking to be killed. Even the strongest friends I know, have had terrible accidents. Some have died, some have lived to ride again. What about next time? It may be your neck that is broken instead of just your wrist. What then?

Sure they are fun but they are dangerous and just not worth the risk.

I hope this child has a chance to grow up.

Life is life

Today was interesting. It is Sunday so we went to church. The music in the service was great and very moving.

The college son and I drove through KFC for a bucket of the new unfried chicken with two sides and four biscuits for only $15.99. Commercial over. We drove home and gobbled it, while watching tv, followed by a nice Sunday afternoon nap.

Sidebar - why are Sunday afternoon naps sooooo good? I've not taken one in ages but today I snoozed 2 hours.

Next, off to the local grocery store for a shop assignment.

I was loading my merchandise into the trunk when I heard a "Hey, Lady". This is a Southern Term for I know who you are but cannot remember your name at the moment. Being Southern, I played along because I couldn't remember her's either. Still, she is a very sweet person who I have chatted with at different stores on and off for years.

I worked from home as a merchandiser before being injured on a work related meeting of a concrete floor with my chin, shoulder, rib, hip and back. She had worked in one of the stores that was on my route. This is how we met.

She has a beautiful baby girl, blond, blue eyes, small royal blue pierced earrings and a big smile. We chatted about the baby who's name is Olivia Elizabeth.

She then mentioned her oldest child, a boy, 17 years old who is now in 'boot camp'. It's not the boot camp that you think of when you hear the term. The camp purpose is to be hard on young juvenile offenders. He is a troubled boy for many reasons.

I feel sad for the boy because I realize the problems he is having are a reaction to things that went on around him. Things that he is powerless to change.

He is a bi-racial child, who's parents split up. The mom became involved with another man after loosing over 200 lbs from gastric bypass surgery. The mom became pregnant, lost twins and is now mom to Olivia. He has been made fun of for his bi-racial heritage. What difficult things for any child to face.

Now, after reacting to things in his life, the man-child is crying out for help. I hope he gets the help he needs. He has been in trouble with the law and this may be his last chance at a normal life.

I look around and must be thankful for my life. Even though there are rough spots, I've never had a child arrested, one who smoked, used drugs, cursed at or tried to hit me.

The only way I am going to get back to normal and end this depression is to see the bright spots, not the dark spots.

Happy Mothers Day!!

HAPPY HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!

Mothers Day but a very special one for us....

Let me begin by wishing all the Mothers in the USA a Happy Mothers Day! It's a great day to have the ones we love remember us. I am so thankful that I am a mother.

I have friends my age that have chosen not to have children. Somehow it seems like only selfish reasons but nonetheless, their reasons and their decisions.

Now, after years of raising children, I look back and see how fast the years flew. My oldest and second child are 6 years apart. My second and third child are 9 years apart. This makes my oldest and my youngest 15 years apart, same mother, same father. I lost a baby to miscarriage, developed cancer and was given a 50-50 chance to beat it. The other option was a total hystr. I wanted more children so I took the 50-50 chance. Thankfully, I was healed and had two more wonderful children.

I am so thankful for them. They are adults now. Two are married and the last one is in college.

I said all that to say this. Tomorrow is a very special Mothers Day for us. Our first and only grand baby boy will be dedicated in church. It is not a baptism but rather a time to give the baby back to the God that gave him in the first place. It is a time to promise to raise him and train him to be a good, decent human being, to love God, and to live a life that will be a blessing to others in his world.

I think back and realize that his Daddy was only 4 when I had cancer. If I had died then, he would have been motherless and probably raised by another mother but not me. I am thankful for him and his care for me even though he was just 4, he helped take care of me even on my sickest days! Now, he is grown and has his own little boy to love and raise.

If we had chosen not to have children, then the things we would have missed out on are uncountable!!! Plus, now, we would have never been a grandparent.

So, life is worth living and Mothers Day is a special day for our entire family...tomorrow....May 10, 2009.

Okay got it......

I figured it out. I was inserting the HTML code in the wrong box on the free blog.

Ahhh....it's nice to have a few brains in my head.

Smart American.

.............................................................................

Several times, I have attempted to enhance my free blog by adding graphics on either side of the main body of the blog itself.

As you can see, the graphic advertising the free graphic ALWAYS covers up the title to my most recent post.

This is very weird.

How do I adjust it to show the title of the post?

Any suggestions or do I just need to leave it plain?

Rain and Weeds

Here is another blog about rain. It's been raining like crazy in our area. I love the rain because it cleans the earth. Our yard is so wet it is soggy like a kitchen sponge. The flowers are blooming and the grass is very green. Well, it's green where the weed killer did not kill the weeds. There are brown patches because our yard was so full of weeds from so much rain.

I bought a bag of product that kills 29 different weeds and can be put out at any time. It worked pretty good!

Since I am basically left handed/armed now, I put the product in a cup, walked around the yard and put out the product. The front yard was done but the back yard is not yet done. Needless to say, the front yard does not really need mowing but the back looks like it's ankle deep.

It is suppose to rain the rest of the week so I guess I will sprinkle the back yard today.

It's a beautiful day, bright, sunny and not humid.

Summer is coming though so enjoy the coolness while it is here.

Handout from Tax Day Tea Party

*nationwide tax day
TEA PARTY
*DEFEAT SOCIALISM *RESTORE OUR REPUBLIC
Huntsville, Alabama Location
vacant lot across the street from
the Post Office on Clinton Ave
Wednesday, 4/15/09 - 12:00pm - 1:00 pm

Our message
to Congress: REPEAL THE PORK! CUT TAXES!

THE PROBLEM

1. The Obama Economic Plan will spend unprecedented amounts of borrowed money, primarily on unnecessary political projects.
This is both morally and fiscally disastrous. We are witnessing the largest giveaways in history. Almost $2 TRILLION has been spent since the first bail out in 2008. The ENTIRE federal deficit before the bail outs was $2.8 trillion and the proposed federal budget for next YEAR is 3.6 trillion. The Congressional Budget Office predicts our budget will generate $9.3 TRILLION of debt. The CBO also said that the 787 billion "Stimulus" Bill will create only a few jobs in 2009 and 2010 at the price of dangerously high levels of inflation as the government prints currency indiscriminately. Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geitner, is now proposing an additional $1 TRILLION in spending on the economy, and there is no end in sight.
2. Republicans and Democrats alike have spent too much money on special interests/earmarks/pork.
3. Our children and grandchildren will pay for these failure in the form of opportunities lost as they inherit a burden inflation and debt.
4. Socialism is rearing its ugly heard in America. In a free market economy, companies that make poor choices fail and make room for the better companies to succeed. The entire world has been able to benefit from the innovations born from a free market, which is the best stimulus to any economy. Yet our government is now bailing out companies and mandating how they can be run. Notice the trend of the government's intervention so far: Social Security, Education, Medicaid, and Medicare. They have excelled in bankruptcy. Politicians encourage your dependence on government programs, rather than rewarding self-reliance.
5. AIG gave out bonuses that accounted for one tenth of 1% of the bail out money they received. These bonuses were approved by Congress in the "Stimulus" Bill and the government was alerted to the bonuses months before they were distributed. Even though our government voted to allow these bonuses, they tried to demonize these citizens and seize their private property in a 90% tax. If our government is going to ignore it's own laws (and Constitution)-how far will that go?
THE SOLUTION
1. There are proven ways to create jobs and end a recession, that are not being followed: cut taxes and cut wasteful spending. It has worked before and it will work again. Encourage your representatives to repeal irresponsible spending and cut taxes.
2. VOTE OUT big spenders.
Support a conservative candidate and help him defeat in 2010 a Congressman or Senator who voted for or supported the 787 billion spending Bill, the 700 billion Wall Street Bail out, the 17.4 billion Auto Bail out, the 410 billion Omnibus Bill, the Mortgage Bail out, and the 90% TAX on private sector bonuses. This rally is #2 out of 10, leading up to the 2010 Congressional election. We seek to inform the public and to help elect the right politicians. We need people who will adhere to the Constitution, protect our liberties, and limit the role of government.
3.We are determined citizen patriots, whose minds and hearts are fixed on the noble purpose of restoring the limited Republican form of government created by our founders. It took 220 years of blood, toil, and tears to preserve our Republic. In just a few months, following years of a slow slide to socialism, liberal politicians have done their best to destroy the very principles of individual responsibility on which this Republic was formed. For the successful future of our country, we need limited government, as many individual freedoms as possible, personal responsibility, and federal savings rather than debt.
4. We are determined to protect our Republican form of Government, and will work tirelessly without rest so long as our individual liberties and free market are under attack from the forces of government control. thanks to American freedom, innovation, and free markets, we now have the tools that can help us succeed in our cause. As the success of this nationwide protest today shows, we are able to network and organize quickly and efficiently to achieve our common goals. Stand up for your rights! Now is the time. If We the People don't who will? Be resilient with us and help us turn our country around and stop its downward spiral.
5.We ask you today to sign up and join our noble cause and help restore limited government to the United States. You can sign up now at our Voter Registration Table and our Contact Database Table (from which we will be sending out updates for future activist opportunities), sign our petition, and visit the Fair Tax Table. Become and stay active in politics on all levels of government, corresponding with your representatives to let them know how you feel. "We the People" still hold the power of our vote.

Hi Everyone,
