ZOOM ZOOM SICK SICK
The Honda is down. I repeat, the Honda is down. The transmission is gone. Now, it is parked by the side of the road on our street. The Hubbie was driving and made it home that far. Of course, I had just taken it to the car wash, had the works to get it looking spiffy. Will it rain? Yes, tonight. Life is a smile sometimes, don't you think?
It will be a flashback for us. Only one car now so I am shuttling The Hubbie to work and back until the zoom zoom can be towed, repaired and returned. I consider myself spoiled having my own wheels all these years. Something like this makes me appreciate having wheels all the more.
Last night was a late night so I'm taking a morning nap. I spent way too long tweaking a video of the GRAND baby and adding it to my Facebook page.
So, it's Monday already. A beautiful, cool, gray day in Dixie. Time for some zzzzs. Being 'retired' is cool.

CANCER FREE SPECIAL WEEK
Today is a special week for me. Usually it's about the kids or The Hubbie but this week is about me, me, me.
In our little town, it is cancer awareness week. The annual walk for life is this week. Both of my/our sons, my/our dil and GRAND baby will be here to walk the survivor walk with me. It is for survivors, caretakers, and those that are in the battle now. It's always a very emotional time for me, yes, I'm looking forward to this year for sure.
This year, 2010, marks my 35th year since being diagnosed with cancer. I had a miscarriage in 1975, resulting in the placenta embedding into the side of the womb and developing a hormone producing tumor. I was given a 50/50 chance to survive. I was offered a total hysterectomy or we could 'try' chemo. Long story short, I started crying, wanted more babies I told my Oncologist, we went with the chemo.
Now, 35 years later, two more children (my first son was barely 4 at the time) born healthy, now adults, I am still breathing, still alive. It is nothing that I have done, nothing that sets me apart from others with the dreaded disease.
The simple reason is, my life is not up. I believe that the day of death is written down, predetermined, just as the day of birth is written down, predetermined.
God still has a reason for my being here and I am thankful everyday that I am.
Yes, I am celebrating this week, celebrating 35 years being cancer free.

BUYING CHEAP
Sometimes, buying cheap is just a waste of money.
I am a penny pincher from way back, with The Hubbie in the ministry for 30 years, it was a requirement. Now, cutting back, working toward retirement it is deja vu (I looked this up on dictionary.com. Spellcheck did not recognize it. Gotcha.)
I love Dollar General stores but I bought this dishwasher detergent tablet and it was a total waste of money. Sure, it was cheap, very cheap. The results were terrible. The tablet left a heavy white residue on all of my dishes. Gag. I finally had to throw them away, the tablets, not the dishes. I even tried to wash the dishes twice, hoping a second time would work, nope. The dishes looked dirtier than when they went into washer. I had to wash them by hand, horrible, I know.
So, buy cheap, if it does the job. If not, it's just a waste of money. Buy the name brand that works. In the long run, you will save even if the name brand product costs a bit more. The dishes will not have to be washed a second time, saving time, electricity, water and the price of the cheap tablet.
Live and learn.

BLOB BLOG
If you are a blogger and you have not posted anything, not one word, on your blog since April 2009 or, say December 2009, isn't it time to delete your blog?
If you do, it will make the blogging highway much smoother for the rest of us, don't you think?
If you know of someone that has a blog but is ignoring it, for whatever reason, suggest they delete the account.
Sure a blog is fun but it is also a commitment, not something to be left hanging. We're all busy, some more than others, then go ahead, drop it, put it on your list of to do someday because you're doing nothing on it today, yesterday, last week or last year!
Clean up the blob blogs!

INSPIRING MUSIC
The post today is to share some inspiring music. This is Keith Reedy. He is a Christian, married with nine (9) children. His music is very sweet and comforting.
Of course, I'm including the link to his website, hoping you will order his CDs. They would make great Christmas presents, Father Day, Mother Day, Pastor Appreciation, etc.!

I may leave this up for several days.

KITCHEN TOWELS
One of the things that makes a kitchen nice is coordinating towels. Towels come in sets of three, four and up. They are also sold separately, with or without a pot holder or oven mitt.
Why do they wear out so quickly? Is it because we use them just about everyday and wash them after every use? Or is it because they are not high quality in the beginning? This year, I was determined to rid my life of all my junk-e, worn out kitchen towels. I did. The problem was the cost of replacing them.
Last year, after Thanksgiving, I was strolling down the clearance aisle of the local WM. Look what I found:
These were marked down from $3.96 each because they were suppose to be holiday specific to $.50 each after that specific holiday.
I do not have apples in my kitchen but at this price, I was going for a color match. I bought all the store had. I was able to get six towels for the price of one originally. This picture shows the color of my kitchen walls.
Shop the after holiday clearances for hand towels that may not be your theme but will be a nice touch of color for a really good price.
It's another empty nester money saving tip. Enjoy.

WHAT
What to blog about on this beautiful Monday in Dixie is the question.
Life is good. It's about to change yet again, a bit scary. It seems we are going backwards but who knows, not me. The Hubbie's job is changing. We shall see. Still, life is good. (I am very excited about another possible change, more to come!!)
I'm wondering why, at this age, life is going by so very fast? I'm certainly not very busy, compared to past seasons. I go to bed when I want, get up when I want. Time escapes me, strange, very strange. Would a schedule help? Maybe, put on the list to consider.
The GRAND baby had tubes put in both ears last Friday. I went up to 'help' on Saturday and back Sunday evening. He is recovering but seems to still be in pain. Well, hello, he had both ear drums cut and tubes put in, of course he is in pain.
I took the night shift, hoping to give Daddy and Mommy some much needed sleep. He was in obvious pain, pulling at his little ears in his sleep. I hunted down the baby Tylenol and a big blanket. He settled down when it kicked in and he was warm enough. He slept 4 hours, woke up for a bottle, dry diaper and more Tylenol, went back to sleep and slept till 7:30.
Daddy said keep him awake while they went to church. I did, it was fun but he was exhausted at lunch time. He slept, total, over two hours, in the afternoon. He woke up, stood up in his bed. I was packing to come home but did not want him to wake up Mommy and Daddy so took him out of his crib. He went back to sleep on my shoulder and slept an additional hour. Mommy and Daddy had a good nap, too. We had to wake them up! They were so tired.
So, I had a good weekend. I love being around the GRAND baby. He's such a sweetie.
Today I go to the Chiro for more therapy, which seems to be helping, yep, a post is coming about the whole experience. Isn't that what a blog is for?

NOT EVERYTHING IN DIXIE IS PERFECT
Yes, yes, some of you are picking yourselves up off of the floor. Being a Mississippi born, raised in the South most of my life, love living in the South type woman, I have a discouraging word.
The weeds in Dixie this year stink! I am posting several pictures to show you how big they are! Last year I put out a weed and feed product, the grass was great. This year, no grass, all weeds.
All of these are in our front, back, side yards and more!
These are just a few of the pictures and a few of the weeds.
I don't want to give my readers nightmares! HEEEELLLLLLPPPP!
TOMORROW!!! WE MOW!!!!

LET'S DO LUNCH
It's Thursday. The Hubbie is working and I have a lunch date to meet a friend. Am I excited? Yes.
Although there are great things about being retired, there are downsides, too. I spend way too much time alone. The days seem to run together, accomplishing little some days. It's a different season of life, definitely, good mixed with other emotions.
Oh well, I'm off for my lunch date. I am looking forward to some girl talk and fun.
This is where we met.
Do you know someone that could use a friend? Maybe today is a good day to reach out to them. You never know how much someone may need some of your time and attention.
These are some random pictures. Cahoots is decorated in vintage and antiques. Fun place.

TO GO
This is a little tip that is going on around our little town.
When you eat out, you are offered a 'to go' cup. It's a cup full of whatever refreshing liquid, tea, Coke, etc., that you had with your meal.
I get it when offered because I can drink it after the meal, saving me money, keeping me quenched and free from buying another drink.
Just thought you might enjoy it, too. You can always ask for one. Please note the main word, FREE.

EASTER
.....more than candy, chocolate bunnies, egg hunts, a pretty new outfit
.....more than a story to tell
.....THE Son of God, who once was dead, now lives
.....then, now, forever.
NO other religion has a risen, living Savior.
HAPPY EASTER TO THE WORLD!

GOOD FRIDAY
Today is a good day. Today is Good Friday. It is a religious holiday, celebrating the death of Jesus. Many say it is the day He was put to death, buried, laid in the tomb. Some say it is a different day of the week, which ever, He died for the sins of the whole world.
Today is a good day because our daughter and her husband are visiting from a different state. They are both so busy so it's great to have them when they can come.
Here is a picture of her at a church camp. We were youth leaders and she was about four years old, enjoying the trampoline at the camp.
Here she is now with her husband. They have been married three years already.
The day is almost over but it's been a good one. We've had a good time. So we are enjoying this Good Friday.
